The Trump administration’s hypocrisy with regard to Title IX is staggering. While the President withholds federal funding from universities that support transgender students – essentially blackmailing institutions into actively discriminating against a marginalized group in the name of Title IX – countless survivors of sexual violence are left with unresolved complaints and zero federal support. 

The Equality Act is a long-overdue step toward ensuring LGBTQ+ people are protected from discrimination at school, in the workplace, and in any public space regulated by federal anti-discrimination law. 

The Supreme Court must protect young people’s access to books that reflect the diversity of the world around them. Attempts to censor LGBTQ+-inclusive materials under the guise of religious freedom are rooted in hate and blatant discrimination.

Decades of public health research demonstrates that preventative HIV care is critical to protecting LGBTQ+ people and vulnerable communities. By raising health care costs, the Supreme Court would put countless lives at risk and exacerbate existing and inequitable barriers to HIV treatment, prevention, and care that disproportionately impact young people of color.

Today, as HIV programs face funding cuts and partisan attacks, Advocates for Youth honors National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day (NYHAAD) and the young people advocating for HIV prevention, treatment, and care nationwide. 

Title X providers, including many Planned Parenthood affiliates, play a critical role in ensuring young people and low-income communities have access to medical treatment and preventive care. Eliminating these services is cruel, dangerous, and will disproportionately impact young people of color who already face higher barriers to health care.
